TRANZINE #2 – A Magazine on the Histories, Identities, and Experiences of Trans People

TRANZINE #2 is a space for reflecting on trans histories, the present, and possible trans futures. The second issue brings together a wide range of authors, contributors, and perspectives through essays, interviews, artistic interventions, and personal narratives that explore trans lives, identities, politics, and communities.

This issue features contributions by Ilja Gladkova, Biljana Ginova, Espi Tomičić, Igor Raiden, Dante Redgrave, Nataša Boškova, Lila Milić, Ljubomir Faizov, Žana Dark, Ines Crvenkovska-Risteska, Lazarus, Dušica Lazova, Abhora Shawn, Jovan Josifovski, Hristijan Našulovski, Leo Popović, Blagica Petrova, Mašina Tina, Matej Krstevski, Stefan Bogeski, and Sufrina.

The cover illustration, created by Jovan Josifovski using technical pen and yellow marker, depicts a trans woman poised at the starting line of a sprint. The drawing begins with the familiar fixation of far-right and fascist ideologies on trans people in sports, but quickly departs from the sports arena and relocates the scene to a fractured city street – a metaphor for a society that continuously demands trans people justify their very existence.

In the background stand the church and the state, institutions that have long invested in fear, control, and the policing of difference. Yet rather than emphasizing vulnerability, the illustration foregrounds the magnitude of trans existence. The central figure towers over the cityscape, eclipsing the monumental authority of these institutions and refusing invisibility. The gun placed before her serves as a reminder of the constant threats directed at trans lives, while simultaneously unsettling the viewer by raising questions about power, resistance, and justice without prescribing an outcome.

TRANZINE #2 is edited by Manja Velichkovska and Jovan Josifovski. The cover artwork is by Jovan Josifovski, while the visual identity and interior design were created by Kristina Atanasova – Kris.

The magazine is produced by the informal collective TransFormA, with administrative support from Coalition Margins and financial support from the International Trans Fund.

The second issue of TRANZINE was launched at Bar Ljubov in collaboration with Skopje Pride, through a public conversation featuring editors Manja Velichkovska and Jovan Josifovski, contributor Leo Popović, and moderator Dušica Lazova.

The launch event was part of the project “Safe Spaces for All: Bridging the Gaps in LGBTIQ+ Inclusion,” implemented by Safe House, a branch of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights. The project is carried out within the regional initiative “Together for LGBTIQ+ Equality,” led by the Center for Civic Education (Montenegro) in partnership with ERA – LGBTI Equal Rights Association for the Western Balkans and Türkiye, Queer Montenegro, Skopje Queer Center, Tuzla Open Centre, Open Mind Spectrum Albania, and the Center for Social Group Development (Kosovo). The initiative is financially supported by the European Union.
