Police are still investigating the motive for the murder of the Cuban transgender woman, who was found brutally stabbed in her apartment in an Athens neighborhood on Monday afternoon.
The body of the transgender woman was found in a pool of blood in a ground floor apartment in the Agios Panteleimon area. A sharp object was the murder weapon.
People who knew her talk about the woman who came from Cuba to Greece four years ago for a better life. After news of her death broke, her friends posted on social media.
The landlady was the one who faced the terrible sight when she went to collect the rent and saw the murdered 46-year-old woman.
Trans activist Anna Kurupu said goodbye with the following heartbreaking words in her post on Facebook:
“I’m numb.” About 4 years ago she came to Athens from Cuba. Hunted by gods and demons. He had a very difficult life. Red Umbrella Athens has contacted her since arriving in Athens. How sweet she looked, despite all the brutality of her life! She said she likes to dance. I took her to Marilou Fragiadaki, at Dolls. She loved to dance. The club became her life. Now it was shining. She crawled from the edge of the world, to find happiness in a small scene, to feel free. Today she was found murdered in the apartment she was renting… As if happiness could not fit into this person. Another trans person has died. In a very long list. I still don’t know if the motive was discriminatory – for now we don’t know any circumstances. I am convinced, however, that this monster, which exists all around us, makes zero effort, with fierce hatred, to leave life in its midst. A victim like Ivanka is so vulnerable. May you find the most beautiful paradise my dear. And to dance…”
Another woman writes:
“The transgender woman, a friend, came from Cuba for a better life. I’ll never forget when I spoke Spanish to you after the show and we were drinking and you hugged me! It was as if you felt that you were back in your homeland. You were found dead, butchered in Agios Panteleimonas. I can’t hold back my tears even though we only met twice. What an unjust and inhumane end.
PS: Have you ever been killed for being straight or cis? For you wonder why there is pride, flags and organizations. FOR THIS!
