Lila Milić Wins the National “Meto Jovanovski” Award

With great joy and pride, the TransForma initiative wishes to express its sincere delight that Lila Milić, our co-founder, is this year’s recipient of the national “Meto Jovanovski” award. This prestigious recognition, awarded jointly to Lila and the Center for Civil Communications (CCC) from Skopje, honors long-standing achievements in the promotion, protection, and advancement of human rights.

Previously an activist for the rights of sex workers, Lila joined the trans activism movement in 2017 and, in a short period, became one of the most influential voices in the movement within our country. Through her activism and her personal example as a trans woman living openly in our conservative society, Lila inspires with her unwavering determination, persistence, and courage. She is a role model for all of us, paving the way toward acceptance, equality, and a dignified life for everyone.

We especially emphasize the significance of this well-deserved award in a time when trans identities are viewed as a threat and the rights of transgender people are subject to controversy. The award stands as a symbol of resistance and hope for a better, more inclusive society.

The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, December 10th, at 10:00 AM in the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia.

Congratulations to Lila Milić for this extraordinary recognition! TransForma is proud to have her as a co-founder and source of inspiration.
