Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) has been commemorated every year since 1999, on November 20th as a day to remember transgender people who have been killed as a result of transphobia. The day was established to draw attention to the continuing violence directed at transgender people. The Transgender Day of Remembrance was founded in 1999 by a small group, including Gwendolyn Ann Smith, Nancy Nanjeroni and Jahaira DeAlto to commemorate the murders of the black transgender women Rita Hester in Allston, Massachusetts, and Chanel Pickett in Watertown, Massachusetts. In our country, it begins to be celebrated for the first time on November 20, 2019, calling on people and organizations to mobilize in order to tackle the trans-violence we face.
